RADIO Maria, a Catholic church-run radio station, will soon extend its network to Imbonggu and other parts of Southern Highlands.

Works and Implementation Minister and Imbonggu MP Francis Awesa made this possible with the release of K100,000 from his district support improvement programme (DSIP) to the Mendi Catholic Church for the Radio Maria network to be extended to the area.

Radio Maria director Fr Paul Kote said the funding would allow the people of Imbonggu and Southern Highlands to access the station.

He said the network also promoted and encouraged community development besides the Catholic faith.

He added that Radio Maria did not encourage advertising and marketing like commercial radio stations.

Awesa said the radio network provided news stories, disseminated information and promoted Christian faith in his electorate, as well as the rest of the province.

David Kuna of Radio Maria said they were expecting two technicians from Italy to set up the receiver at selected sites in Mendi and Nipa districts. He said this was a welcome news for church followers in the province.
