ELIMINATION for the Raicoast open seat is expected to take place during the weekend at the United Church hall in Madang, returning officer Cherubim Lai says.
He said yesterday that the last five ballot boxes were expected to be completed before quality checks can take place today.
“On Wednesday, we had to work during the night until 3am on Thursday. The counting officials are very tired at the moment but we will work overtime to complete the primary counts,” Lai said.
He said he expected his team to start quality checks today before they prepare for the elimination process over the weekend.
“We are hopeful that we can start the elimination process as soon as possible without any more delays,” he said.
After count 27, PNG Party candidate Peter Sapia was leading with 4484 votes, followed by National Alliance candidate Edwin Baafe with 3685 votes and THE candidate and incumbent MP James Gau with 2841 votes.
