MORESBY South Rugby League women’s heavyweights Sab City Raiders and Gabutu Dragons continued their winning run at Moresby South Stadium last weekend.
Raiders eased past Vadavada United 26-4 and Dragons beat Joyce Bay Roosters 22-8 while reigning champions Two-Mile Pearls were made to work for a 10-8 win over a young SS Rabbitohs outfit.
After round two, Raiders, Dragons and Pearls are unbeaten on four points each.
Trailing them are Rabbitohs (2), Vabukori Mosquitoes (2), Vadavada (0), Six-Mile Crows (0) and Roosters (0).
Winger Rita Rema, centre Daisy Nick, fullback Cynthia Baia, Mini Peter and Mary Paru led Sab City’s attack and capitalised 11-man Vadavada. Rema opened the scoring before Nick bagged another unconverted try for an 8-0 lead at halftime.
Raiders piled on more points after the break through Baia and veteran Peter to seal the win.
Both sides missed several of their senior players who had Port Moresby Corporate Touch, Capital Rugby Union and Port Moresby Rugby Football League commitments.
Meanwhile, Dragon Jafinda Sap recorded a hat-trick against cellar dwellers Roosters.
But the utility’s performance was overshadowed by her sending off on Sunday.
Sap is seen as a solid player who could make the national women’s rugby league team following her standout performance.
