GOOD relationships with local communities and Ramu Agri Industries Ltd (RAIL) were further enhanced this month with the signing of a memorandum of understanding.
Siruwarang Village of Leron Plains in the Markham district, Morobe province, and RAIL jointly signed the MoU which commits both parties to work collaboratively in resolving community issues.
The MoU addressed community concerns of stray cattle damage to food crop garden and peanut plots and resolved issues which date back to October last year.
Garden damage by cattle had been an ongoing problem in the area and both RAIL and the village community agreed to work together to maintain good relationships.
In addition to community leaders and members from Siruwarang, the ceremony was attended by the head of administration, head of beef, head of security, senior ranch manager and lands coordinator from RAIL.
The event was witnessed by Kenny Andrews, agriculture and lands officer from the Markham district administration, who also oversaw the individual payment of goodwill money (belkol moni) to each claimant.
The amount received had been independently assessed by Department of Agriculture and Livestock, who also appreciated the gesture by RAIL.
The event demonstrated RAIL’s commitment to maintain good community and landowner relations and the company’s commitment to resolve issues with the landowners and local communities resolved amicably.
