HEAVY rain and strong winds yesterday caused widespread damage to power lines in East New Britain.
It affected supply to consumers in Kokopo, Rabaul, Kerevat and surrounding areas.
PNG Power Ltd chief executive office Tony Koiri said the wild weather persisted throughout the night, resulting in a total system outage at 2am yesterday.
Company linesmen isolated the fault areas and started restoration work shortly after.
Koiri said Kokopo township and parts of Kerevat and Rabaul had their power supply restored yesterday and workmen were continuing to restore power to the other areas.
“With the forecast of more rain and windy conditions, the public is advised to expect power disruptions during the coming days and report any outages or downed power lines.
