The only foot bridge that links people from  Bush Karintz and Highway Karintz in the Karintz local level government of Mendi-Munihu district, Southern Highlands, has been washed away.

A combine community service work was organised to build the bridge and 15m long logs were put across the bridge but everything was swept away by the heavy rain last Tuesday.

Youth leader Frank Paki Huk said their hard work to save students from missing classes was all a waste and now  intervention of elected leaders was needed. Huk said students attending Topa Primary School and other elementary schools had missed classes for days.

He said the old foot bridge linked Tulum, Olea, Posulim, Bela, Pembi and other villages in  Bush Karintz and Hum, Topa, Humbra and Melant in the Hghway Karintz and even other villages in the Lai Valley LLG.

Huk said it was a said story for farmers and villagers because they rely on the bridge to access basic services.
