CONTINUOUS rainfall in the highlands is greatly affecting the people and their food crops.
In Baisu, Western Highlands, people have been experiencing continuous flooding for more than two months.
Peter Pango, a long time resident in the area, said it was strange because it had never happened to them before.
He said people in Baisu had never experience such continuous flooding.
“We have never seen any flooding continuing for over many months in the area and I suspect it was due to the climate change,” Pango said.
He said floods destroyed food crops and buildings making life hard for the residents who did not know who to turn to for help.
“We don’t know where to get food.
“And we do not know where to seek assistance from and what to do because we are severely affected by the flood,” he said.
He said government authorities, especially the Western Highlands disaster office, had done nothing to assist them when they experienced flooding.
A pastor from the Revival Holy Spirit Movement Ministry confirmed that the flood had severely destroyed food crops and houses.
Kolimbao Mangao appealed to the Western Highlands disaster authorities to assist them in any way they can because they were running out of food.
