MORE than 4000 youths from the Western deanery of the Catholic Archdiocese of Kundiawa are preparing to host a rally at Don Bosco Technical College next week.
The week-long rally starts on Tuesday and ends on Sunday the 23rd. It will see youths from the Mingende, Siure, Kup, Yombar and Kendine parishes converge at the college to mark the Year of the Youths in Papua New Guinea and the Pacific. Youth coordinator James Bernard said the youths saw this gathering as an opportunity to change for the better.
“Our youths have been engaged in all kinds of illicit activities like drugs that had a negative impact on their lives,” he said.
“They are sick and tired of the bad habits. Trying to quit those habits through spiritual renewing of the mind and soul will greatly help in overcoming them.”
Bernard said school students from grades 6 to 12 would be part of the rally, with Fr Peter Nokai, of Siure Parish, celebrating mass at the closing on Sunday.
The youths will be conducting outreach and awareness work this week in all public places, teaching and sharing God’s word.
“To seek God’s forgiveness for our sins, we believe in the power of the cross,” Bernard reiterated.
