Raminai gets futsal comp up

THE modified version of soccer, futsal will be used to promote healthy living among members of the corporate and public sectors.
The initiative from the vice-minister for Sports, National Events and APEC 2018, Wesley Raminai, pictured, will see the start of the competition today at the Rita Flynn Indoor Complex.
Raminai said the competition would be used to promote social networking among participants.
“It will be used for players and officials involved with the event to get to know each other as they stay fit and healthy and help to manage work-related stress,” Raminai said.
The Member for Kagua Erave, a former soccer player and sports administrator, believes that the competition will become popular as people within Port Moresby embrace it.
“Several teams have confirmed participation and will play this weekend.
“We anticipate it becoming a monthly event.
“Lifestyle diseases are something that is prevalent in our society, particularly in urban centres and we need to engage in activities keep us fit.
“It is a Fifa World Cup year and the interest in soccer will be good so using the modified version of the game we can also promote the sport and its values.
“We encourage the corporate and government sector to embrace this.”
Percy Mataio, from PETA Ltd, which is a company sanctioned to conduct futsal events in PNG, and are coordinating this weekend’s events, said interest from the private and public sectors had been good.
He said 16 teams had confirmed their participation.
The team registration fee is K300 which will go towards cash prizes and trophies and other administrative expenses.
The competition starts at 6pm with a K2 admission fee charged at the gate.
