KAGUA-Erave MP Wesley Raminai has been appointed as Minister Assisting the Prime Minister after returning with Opposition MPs from Vanimo.
He was one of the Government MPs who defected to the Opposition on Nov 13 and was in camp at Vanimo for about two weeks before retuning on Sunday.
He returned to the Government side and will now be in charge of Sports, National Gaming and Control Board and other offices which come under the Prime Minister’s Office.
After a swearing-in ceremony at Government house yesterday, Raminai said he had to switch camps again for the sake of his electorate.
“It’s wonderful to be back in Port Moresby after holidaying for two weeks in Vanimo, West Sepik,” he said.
“I had to make my move to (rejoin) Government because of my people. We still have projects to get off the ground and I have to implement them.
“So the best thing I can do is to stay with the Government and continue the work in my district.”
He was sports vice-minister in the Peter O’Neill-led Government.
Prime Minister James Marape said Raminai belonged to a class of first-time MPs “with no excess baggage”.
“They just want to get on with life and do the right thing and fight for greater share of our natural resources. They just want to change the way we have been doing politics,” he said. “This is the type of new leadership generation that we are talking about.”

  • Mr. YOYO, Your Electorate is one of the least developed districts in SHP. Why did you not negotiate for an Economic portfolio so that the back pages of your districts of Kagua Erave can be developed. Luck that Peter Oneill allocated funding to seal your road from Ialibu to Kagua when he was Prime Minister.

  • Thumps Up to Hon Raminai for the TIMELY MOVE. This was the KIND many of us longed to see FROM MPs as TIME is catching to form any new government BUT to lay down their differences and PREPARE for 2022 and can form any NEW GOVERNMENT of their CHOICE.

  • Call some of your brothers at the opposition side to follow you to the government side please. We people are not interest in your VONC games this year as we are serious in our children future and the next generation to come. We want our country to take ownership of our own country and Not spectators in our own country. Take back PNG.

  • Good one, serve the interest of your people should the main priority for all MPs.

Expect more movements in the coming weeks.

  • Good move. Every leader must have consideration for their voters. Not Self interest. We hope more will do so.

  • Good on you MP Wesley Raminai, for jumping off the ship of MV Vanimo- Green River in Port Moresby. There maybe I predict three or four MPs in the Opposition who are itching to move and follow suit to the Government side. That the Oppsition’s VONC can go down to the Waigani Swamp. The opposition’s comment to be in the Government to rescue the country’s economy next year only is a plain stupid comment. All the same as usual.

  • Your people voted you in so serve in their interest. They should be the number one priority because when it comes 2022 elections and you’ve done you job, they will consider you as their first choice again when voting.
By the way, wise choice joining the Government side.

  • He’s been promised for that slice, so when he landed in POM, he ran straight to it. Using his Electorates name as
    a reason for jumping ship.

  • Very good.
As a Central Man, I now call upon my good Honorable Member of Parliament Mr. Peter Isoaimo (Kairuku Hiri MP) to please kindly join the government.
I know PI is a good person, a loyal person and through loyalty, he is with National Alliance – no matter what.
But I’d like to kindly ask him (PI) to please reconsider his status, and as a good MP and true leader, please move to the government for stability and development. I as a Central person am asking kindly here.
This call also goes out to Sir Puka Temu and Mr. Lekwa Gure. Please join the government with our good Governor Hon. Robert Agarobe.
This is a good team here in the government, please join the government.

  • Wow! Prodigal son returns and he is given the role in assisting PM. The roles include Sports, National Gaming and Control Board and other offices which come under the Prime Minister’s Office.
What do all the other members in government who have been loyal have to say on this??

  • Wow! The prodigal son has returned with oppposition camp from Vanimo and already is been appointed Minister assisting PM. He will be in charge of Sports, National Gaming and Control Board and other offices which come under the Prime Minister’s Office.
What do the other MPs in government who have been loyal, have to say on this??

  • Hon. Wesley Raminai, its good to note that common sense has prevailed above your self ego. There is certainly a general feeling in the country whereby the majority of the population are in support of our current PM James Marape’S leadership. If the other good and genuine MPs who are currently in the Opposition can make the same move as WR, I believe you are doing yourself and the country true justice. I again call upon good MPs like Dr. A Marat, Joseph Lelang, Kevin Isifu and James Donald to switch over to the government camp ASAP. You will look more respectable and and honorable in the government camp.

  • Good to be back. You said it Honourable Member. But please don’t give us your reasons for rejoining the government, just move back and tell your other friends still waiting on the other side to come back. Enough of this time wasting. Can’t you see what is happening? We don’t want to hear any more reasons from anyone but we want to see a stable parliament to complete its term.

  • Great Move Raminia.. you MPs what kind of service you all with Belden Nama wants to prove to the people of png.. I wish leave everything and come back to the government..and let MP Marape finish what he had in mind till 2022 election comes…

    Thank you
