A SAFE-DRIVING competition at the Ramu NiCo Kurumbukari mine added extra flair to the company’s observation of national mining safety week last week.
The competition was divided into two categories – light vehicles and forklifts.
It attracted a large number of employees who drove to complete the obstacle challenge that had been prepared by officers from the health, safety and environment department.
The light vehicle competition required drivers to complete the course in a specific time. It was the same for the forklift competition.
All participants had to show a valid driver’s licence and company driving permit.
A quiz on safety was held after the competition.
Ramu Nico Management’s Kurumbukari site in Madang celebrated mining safety week from April 8-13Registered mine manager Kanu Sarimu described this year’s event as one of the “most comprehensive” because of the improvement in safety knowledge.
