Business

Ramu Nico maintained its monthly production of more than 3000 tonnes and a production capacity above 106 per cent since January, an official said.
Chairman Zong Shaoxing revealed this during a luncheon with landowners’ association representatives and company employees of its Madang operation base late last month.
Shaoxing said Ramu NiCo had always been working positively to promote cooperation with landowners on community levels to improve the livelihood of landowners.
He said Ramu NiCo’s mining operations were located in the most-remote parts of Madang, however, the company had overcome huge difficulties to bring much-needed infrastructure such as roads and bridges, schools and health centres in its project-impacted areas.
Shaoxing said Ramu NiCo would continue to respond actively to community requests to realise sustainable development. During the construction phase of the Ramu NiCo Project from 2005 to 2007, Ramu Nico made significant contributions in areas of local procurement, tax revenue, community compensation and relocation, he said.
Over K250 million worth of business opportunities have been provided, and 11 public service facilities including schools, clinics, power and water supply stations have been built.
