RAMU NiCo Management Ltd this week launched its national safety week celebration via a video conference attended by senior employees.
The senior staff came from its Basamuk refinery, Kurumbukari mine and Madang base.
It will be followed by a range of safety awareness programmes, competitions and activities at the three sites during the week.
The safety week is sanctioned by the National Apex Mining Safety Council of the Mineral Resources Authority to generate the theme of safety, health and environment.
It is celebrated by the mining petroleum companies in PNG.
Ramu NiCo board chairman Zhao Shimin said safety was paramount and must be exercised at all times.
Zhao encouraged staff to take part in the programmes during safety week, use the week to improve emergency response capacities and avoid potential risks.
They should also use the opportunity to improve health and safety standards.
Gaore Yongxue, Ramu NiCo’s chief operating officer, thanked the national government for introducing the Safety Week event last year.
It provides an opportunity for Ramu NiCo to showcase its seriousness in upholding safety in its operation.
