Ramu Nico observes mining safety week

RAMU NiCo Management (MCC) Limited concluded its National Mining Safety Week activities last weekend, completing various safety drills.
The activities were conducted at the company’s Kurumbukari mine, Basamuk refinery and the company’s Madang operations base in town.
The National Mining Safety Week is an annual series of activities initiated by the chief inspector of the mine secretariat under the Mineral Resources Authority and is observed by all mining companies in the country.
It is aimed at enhancing the safety awareness and knowledge among mining companies and their employees.
This year’s NMSW theme is “Fitness to Work”.
The theme was aimed at enabling employees to actively adopt any method that enhances their fitness, health and wellbeing thereby contributing to a healthy and safe working environment
Ramu NiCo health, safety and environment officer at Kurumbukari mine, Nathaniel Wadakai said: “The NMSW activities at the mine site started last Monday.
“However, due to the Coronavirus (Covid-19) situation, the HSE only planned activities which included emergency response drills, a safety poster competition, safety inspections, JSA (job safety analysis) development competition and a safety management power point presentation.”
The activities included safety poster competition, a fire drill, safety inspection and safety quiz.
