The National, Tuesday 1st of April, 2014
POLICE expect to arrest those who raped a Grade 10 student in Gazelle, East New Britain, early this month.
Provincial police commander Supt Anthony Wagambie said suspects were known, identified and would be arrested and charged soon.
He said there were three suspects all were from Napapar No 2 ward, in the Gazelle district.
Wagambie said it was reported that on March 6, a Grade 10 female student from one of the local schools, was trying to return to school from the Kerevat growth centre when she was forced by one of the suspects to go home with him.
According to police reports, the suspect was a married man.
The suspect forced the girl to his village and left her at a hausboi (a house for single men) as he could not take her to his house.
The hausboi’s owner later raped her that night before locking her in.
Wagambie said another suspect came to the hausboi the next day, raped her.
On the third day, the first suspect raped her and was attempting to take her to another location when a man saw the girl and rescued her and took her to his family.
who then helped her get home to her family.
Wagambie said her family took her to the hospital for a medical report which confirmed that she was raped and was starved for three days.
He said police expected to arrest all three men.
