PAPUA New Guinea Olympic Committee (PNGOC) secretary-general Auvita Rapilla, pictured, will deliver a speech at Netball PNG’s leadership and governance workshop in Lae on Sept 20.
Netball PNG chairman Julienne Leka-Maliaki said the workshop targeted council members, who will attend the national titles on Sept 17–23.
The objective of the workshop is to discuss quality leadership and best practices in the administration of sports, with focus on netball.
Rapilla’s message will be on the roles and responsibilities of leaders and how good leadership and best practices can add value to the overall aspirations of netball.
Leka-Maliaki said there was a need for quality leadership across the entire netball community, associations would not operate and run effectively without good leaders.
She said netball was the largest women’s sport in the country, so having strong leadership was critical to the growth and sustainability of the code.
“Engaging Rapilla to speak at this workshop can be influential as she heads a well-managed sporting organisation — the PNGOC — which has standards and a reputation of strong governance practices,” Leka-Maliaki said.
She said the council was looking forward to engaging with Rapilla “as we continue to build and grow the sport in the country”.
