PAPUA New Guinea Rugby Football League chief executive Reatau Rau says he is impressed with the pool of talent in the Digicel Cup finals.
Rau said the four-week top-six finals, which minor premiers Lae Tigers, Waghi Tumbe, Hela Wigmen, Rabaul Gurias and Mt Hagen Eagles, had seen a lot of unknown talent come to the fore.
Rau said standout Digicel Cup players would be considered for SP Hunters and Papua New Guinea Kumuls selection.
“Standouts from the Digicel Cup always come into the equation in any selection,” Rau said.
“Coaching director Michael Marum and his selectors always discuss with coaches the Digicel Cup teams and at the same time they list what they have to work on.
“Form is one big thing we will consider for the Kumuls’ end-of-season fixtures against Fiji and Great Britain.
“There is also a core of Kumuls, based in the country and overseas, who we work with.”
Rau said yesterday that Marum and his team of selectors would discuss the Kumuls selection in the coming weeks.
He also made it clear that the bulk of the players selected for the Hunters pre-season would come from Digicel Cup with a few players from the national championships.
