THE Wewak Kickboxing Association has named a strong eight-man team that will take part in the PNG Games in Port Moresby next month.
The fighters, who will travel with Team Sepik for the first time, have been hard at training for the last four weeks and are confident of giving their opponents very strong challenges.
President of the WKA, Mark Sai, said he was confident of the group as most of them had fought outside the province and received awards for their achievements.
He said the eight fighters were selected during the June 19-21 provincial tournament in Wewak in which more than 100 fighters from all six districts in East Sepik took part.
The Team Sepik fighters are Eliot Yambun, Digs Kutne, Rodney Tabego, Adison Agai, Melchior Hiriehuwi, Simon Duo, Leo Sobo and Jason Tasi.
Meanwhile, Ambunti-Dreikikir MP and Correctional Services Minister Tony Aimo presented K10,000 on behalf of the people of Ambunti Dreikikir to Team Sepik during the week.
The cheque was presented to Team Sepik manager Pius Tende and a committee member representing the business community, Leslie Wungen, at the Airport Lodge in the presence of his Joint District Planning and Budget Priority Committee (JDPBPC) members.
The allocated money will go towards the purchase of a table for the fundraising dinner at the Holiday Inn in Port Moresby tomorrow night.
Tende and Wungen thanked Aimo for his peoples’ contribution and assured him that the money would be well spent.
They said East Sepik will be sending one of the biggest teams outside of NCD, consisting of 355 competitors and officials. They said they appreciated the support they were getting from the government and people of East Sepik.
