AFTER a successful Kumul Petroleum Papua New Guinea Rugby Union Super Sevens Series, Kimbe Rebels will march into the annual Sports Tok Sevens this weekend with a new line-up.
Assistant coach Freddie Matthies said the new-look Rebels featured young prospects from West New Britain.
“The majority of our players are new to the tournament and Rebels,” he said.
“We have a good mixture of players with three selected from Hoskins.”
The bulk of the Rebels players were part of the 15 City Pirates in last year’s tournament.
“Most of our players will run for Pirates since they played for them in 2021,” Matthies said.
Kimbe Rebels have nurtured some of the country’s top sevens talents.
Their recent stars include Junias Sabatha, Kennedy Benjamin and Paul Peter.
“Our goal for the Sports Tok Sevens is to further expose our players to a higher level of competition,” Matthies said.
“It’s always interesting to field new players as we don’t know what to expect from them.
“I’m confident in the players we have selected for the tournament.
“They are eager to play.
“We have many talented players who are keen play for Rebels.”
Rebels: Davis Mann, Timothy Kepe, Lawrence Lamon, Mona Bunga, Jeremiah Makony, Edward Tarere, Nickson Anis, Chrsty Gorea, Tyren Mungil, Clerance Clincy, Akqila Bai, James Apelis, Micheal Kura, Joe Ben, Timothy Pola.
