The Rebels are looking forward to take on Veupunama in game four of round two in the Port Moresby Netball Association’s premier division at Rita Flynn Courts tomorrow.
Rebels coach Oti Lasagavibau said her players were preparing well for their two matches this weekend. They play Telstars on Sunday.
Rebels played out a 41-41 draw with Sparrows last week, a tough game that had them on their toes.
“Our game against Sparrows was really challenging, the win could’ve been anyone’s,” Lasagavibau said.
“One thing I emphasise in all our games is discipline.
“We must cut down on our errors and play well in defence to thwart goals.
“Every game is important. We work around strategies from our previous games to help us improve in the next.
“Our team delivers according to the game plan, and that has really boosted our performances.
“Veupunama had a close game with Mermaid last week so we can’t underestimate them.”
The Rebels will rely on their experienced hands in the likes of former Pepes Lua Rikis, Winnie Mavara, Susan Wellington and Serena Ovia.
Veupunama captain Barbara Arivusu said her girls had been improving in recent matches, which boosted the team’s morale.
‘It’s a little intimidating to face Rebels since they are a competitive team and have one of the best shooters in the competition — Lua Rikis,” Arivusu said.
“Hopefully, our defender Villie Nopiri can put pressure on their shooters.”
She said her players would need to cut down their errors and distribute the ball quickly.
