Recall parliament to deal with ethnic clashes

Letters, Normal

IT is about time parliament is recalled and decisive debates about tough penalties regarding payback killings, murders and ethnic clashes in our towns and cities be tackled.
Parliament must pass new policies and legislations to address these issues.
It is obvious our law and order problems are getting out of hand and the authorities are helpless to do anything to contain them.
We all know of the many factors that led to these issues, so I do not wish to waste time listing and arguing about them here.
My concern as a citizen of PNG is to ask my political representatives in the parliament, where is my constitutional right to be safe?
If such constitutional rights are not being guaranteed, then, are we fit to be called a nation?
With the recent increase in ethnic clashes, both in the rural and urban centres, I have not seen any reaction from the government or opposition.
All we have seen and heard are mere condemnation but no action.
Perhaps, it is time the government and opposition put their political differences aside and urgently address these issues.
I am sad to say that, if the government and parliament continue to turn a blind eye and deaf ear on these issues, sooner or later, we will soon end up like our African cousins having bloody ethnic wars in our provinces and country.
