Recent graduates told to comply with requirements

STUDENTS who have recently been given their certificate of completion at the University of Goroka and awaiting provisional teacher registration certificates are told to comply with requirements first.
UOG vice-chancellor Prof Musawe Sinebare said Teaching Service Commission (TSC) requirements had to be followed when issuing provisional teacher registration and the student administration was in the process of doing that.
“For students doing the four-year bachelor of education programme and early childhood education, there is no problem as they would have already got theirs.
“Queries arising from post-vocational training education (PVTE) and post-graduate diploma education (PGDE) are the ones on hold and being checked,” Prof Sinebare said.
Senior records officer Atito Musau confirmed on Wednesday that TSC had instructed them to verify specialist courses, strand major and which university or institution was last completed for those PGDE and PVTE students.
“We have completed the PGDE lot and are now in the process of completing the PVTE lot.
“Once that is done, we shall have them dispatched.
Mamose regional TSC director Joseph Oiyoumb, said UOG was still behind in issuing provisional teacher registrations and this was causing a lot of frustration for students out there teaching and wanting to be on the payroll.
“Certificates must be issued with the provisional teacher registration papers. They must go together,” Prof Sinebare said.
However, he said the certificate was only given to those with four-year content degrees.
Those wanting to be teachers must complete a one-year PGDE programme.
Provisional teacher registration certificates are given by teacher education division or the Teaching Service Commission.
