Recognise local loyal elites

Letters

I SUPPORT the Marape-Davies government’s stance on taking back PNG.
In reality, the vision of taking back PNG is right at our door steps.
But the number of steps and approach in getting to the door depends on us the individuals.
Visions will only be achieved if we think and work in the same spirit, governed by a policy frame work.
I would like to share with you the first practical refugee policy that was made between Australia and the PNG government.
The policy that forced Papua New Guinea to implement, regardless of time, and the nature of what the outcomes would be after the contract implementation.
For now, I leave the advantages and disadvantages to those individuals in Manus or where ever who have interacted with the asylum seekers and refugees to talk about it.
The point I would like to share with stakeholders and the current government is that the elite local contractors, who worked with asylum seekers and refugees, implemented the international policy very well.
A United Nations policy, Biblical policy and PNG Constitution that fosters on protecting, caring and respecting lives regardless of where we come from or what colour we bear.
These loyal local contractors, despite the hardships and high risks faced and without receiving risk entitlements, managed to stand for their country to fly the PNG flag and implemented the first ever asylum seekers and refugees policy very well with success.
If the government is focused on taking back PNG, can you recognise your local elite countrymen and women by paying their risk entitlements or any other entitlements deserved under labour and UN policies?
Also ask if the Australian Government and UN to at least recognise them with a form of medal or certificates to operate the same job they did in any international refugee camps.
I think this will boost PNG’s human resource through recognising, identifying, promoting and marketing PNG talents to work outside our country by using this as a stepping stone.
