Recruitment process undergoing reforms

THE Correctional Service is undergoing reform on the recruitment process and it will be used next year for selection of new intakes.
PNG Correctional Service commissioner Stephen Pokanis said the department was currently using the recruitment systems and processes from the recruit and training manual review of 2016.
The new reforms next year will be competency-based and will cover the criteria selection, education qualification at Grade 12 and undergraduates.
Pokanis said the reform would also look at professional recruitment for specialised people to occupy key specialised positions.
“An independent human resource recruitment firm will handle CS recruitment,” he said.
“Selected applicants will come before the CS Education, Training and Evaluation Board (CSTEB) for vetting before presenting the report to commissioner for final decision and approval.”
Pokanis said the task was to continue to improve and strengthen the governance systems so that they could manage and reduce all forms of human weaknesses identified in their current recruitment and training processes.
He said the department thanked the previous and present governments for continuous support in their annual budget to develop their personnel.
