Red Cross gets K21,700 for quake victims

THE Japan Papua New Guinea Association (JPNGA) has donated K21,730 for earthquake relief yesterday.
According to Akinori Ito, director of JPNGA PNG branch, it donated the relief funds to PNG Red Cross for the purchase of relief items.
He said the amount was not large but it was a gift from friends in Japan to PNG.
Japanese Ambassador Satoshi Nakajima said the people of Japan were saddened to hear of the earthquake in PNG.
Nakajima said the donation was not large but it was a sincere gesture of friendship.
He thanked the association for supporting the people.
“I hope that the money will be used effectively and honestly to assist the victims,” Nakajima said.
PNG Red Cross was one of the first organisations to step in to help after the earthquake in the Highlands.
PNG Red Cross general-secretary Uvenama Rova said the money would be used wisely and acquittals would be made.
