THE KQL Reds took out the top honours after defeating the Dragons 15-10 in a highly intensified match in the inaugural Mendi rugby union 7s cup finals on the weekend.

Being undefeated throughout the eight-week tournament the cup champions finally met their match in a high-intensity cup final with the Dragons, who they eventually beat in extra-time.

Invited guests Papua New Guinea Rugby Football Union (PNGRFU) general manager Simon Kerr and national 7s coach Warren Jennings watched from the official stands.

Jennings also conducted pre-game training sessions with all the teams, perfecting the basics and psyching them up before taking the field at Tente rugby league oval.
