POLICE Commissioner David Manning says the K2 million refurbished Boroko Police Station is a testimony to an enhanced police partnership with the Australian Federal Police (AFP).
He made the remarks during the station reopening ceremony yesterday before PNG and Australian police and Correctional Service representatives.
“The Boroko station is one of the biggest and the oldest stations in Port Moresby and in the country, many senior officers who served here were elevated to executive management in the constabulary over the years,” Manning said.
He said after three months of refurbishment, the new-look metropolitan station signified continuous confidence by the AFP and the Australian government.
In addition, AFP Assistant Commissioner Jamie Strauss said a review was done before work began.
He said the AFP saw that as a priority and upgraded the station as it held a strong place in the history of the constabulary service to the communities in Port Moresby.
“The AFP and the Australian government are pleased to be able to provide this upgrade and continue our partnership through the PNG-Australia Police partnership.”
