Register people at their districts

Letters

THIS is a proposal to the National Planning and Monitoring Minister and Bulolo MP Sam Basil and the Prime Minister James Marape to consider in terms of national census enrolment.
The Government should allow people living in towns and cities to enroll at their home districts for the 2020 national census to contribute meaningfully in future developments at their local level government wards. For example, people from Buang LLG in Bulolo, Morobe working in other parts of PNG or overseas should register in their respective village council wards in 2020 national census.
Papua New Guineans have strong customary ties even though they live, work elsewhere.
LLG wards councillors and recorders should be properly trained to use government development funds and keep proper records in their respective communities.
These group of people can cast their votes wherever they live to choose candidates from their local wards and districts.
In order to see developments in our rural areas, the Government should allocate direct funding of K1million annually as LLG Services Improvement Programme Funds to LLGs starting 2023.
The LLG development funds should be deducted from each MPs annual District Services Improvement Programme Funds.

Former Bulolo MP
