YOUTHS in Lae have been told that there are government funds they can access but they must first register their groups with the District Youth Council.

Lae MP Loujaya Toni said this last Friday to the various youth groups in the district in Malahang.

Toni, the Community Development, Youth and Religion Minister, was addressing the Ahi Council of Women and said she would address the plight of youth groups when they follow what women’s groups had done to register, elect officer bearers and submit their five-year development plans.

“Like for the women council, the national government will recognise them through the national youth council, provincial youth council, to the district and local level government, and channel funding appropriately down,” she said.

“The time for youth will come and the challenge goes back to the youths to get organised and call out to us to get involved,” she said.

She said like women, churches and people with living with disabilities, youths did not have any specific funding basket in the past 37 years.

This change in the 2014 national budget to be handed down in November.
