Regular foot patrols in cities and towns

I  APPRECIATE the efforts of the Police Commander Supt Martin Lakari and his officers for foot-patrolling Mt Hagen city.

This  city  is  the worst city in PNG.

Police visibility on the streets, especially at markets, main shopping centres  and  bus  stops  is crucial  to discourage crime.

Our  police officers seem to do street patrol on special  occasions only.

Can we change this to allow regular foot patrols in our three cities and major towns?

Currently, our country’s law  and order  problems are   getting  out  of  hand  and such practice will help reduce the possibilities  of other crimes happening.

Let us not wait for Australian police officers who are here to tell our  officers how to prevent a crime.

It seems that we are not serious about addressing crime in PNG.

Our cultural ties, wantok system and nepotism within the police force are not helping either.

I  believe  we  still  need an outsider for the new police commissioner’s post.

Also, Mendi, Kundiawa, Kainantu, Madang town and the Gordon’s Market need foot patrols.
