Regular PMV fares back: ICCC

Business

PUBLIC motor vehicles (PMVs) and taxi operators must not overcharge fares, Independent Consumer and Competition Commission (ICCC) commissioner and chief executive officer Paulus Ain says.
“By now, all PMV operators should be charging normal fares set by the ICCC,” he said.
“The public must make it their business to inform the PMV operators and pay the correct or normal fares.”
Ain said fuel prices for petrol, diesel and kerosene had been reduced by ICCC on March 8 following the Government’s decision to apply tax exemptions on the 10 per cent goods and services tax (GST) and excise tariffs, which would apply for the next six months.
“This action by the Government is taken to support families in this time when the global prices of crude oil have increased causing domestic fuel prices to increase,” he said.
“The ICCC is now calling on the PMV and taxi operators throughout the country to observe and comply with the ICCC approved fares and applicable concessions, as published in the National Gazette No. G888, and gazette No. G107 for East New Britain.
“Any operator found to be charging above the ICCC approved fares, will be prosecuted.
“The public is further advised to report any instances of overcharging by PMV operators by contacting ICCC.”
“For any complains related to PMV fares overcharging, report it to the nearest police station or any police vehicle on the road or at a road block.
“It can also be reported to the Road Traffic Authority.”
