Regulate alcohol price

Letters

THE production and consumption of homebrew is happening all over the country.
Government law enforcement bodies such as police and community leaders are trying their best to fight it but it is getting out of hand.
Warnings from the health authorities say homebrew is dangerous but people knowingly consume it.
The pull factor is, it is cheap and affordable.
A beer can costs K6 in Kundiawa Town (Chimbu) and K10 in hotels while a homebrew 500ml container costs K4.
Other PNG made alcoholic beverages are expensive.
It will be sensible if imported alcohol beverages are expensive.
The Government through the Internal Revenue Commission (IRC) and the price regulatory should find ways to help reduce the price of alcoholic beverages.
If not, the production and consumption of homebrew will get out of control.
