LAE will need more funding than the K10 million budgeted by the Government to rehabilitate its road network, according to a provincial official. Morobe works manager Samson Apai said Lae roads would need at least K50 million to rehabilitate roads in the city this year. “We are happy to work closely with Lae City Authority, and the office of Lae MP and Minister for Lands and Physical Planning John Rosso, who has been supportive to see that the roads are rehabilitated,” he said. Apai named the priority roads in the city as China Town roundabout to Malahang (started), old Telikom College to Second Seven section of the Busu Road, the loop road around Tent Citi Market and other industrial roads within the city. “There are also other streets in town that we also consider for rehabilitation,” he said.  With the budget for Lae city roads this year being set, all contract procurements were done as budgeted. Asked if plans were in place for new roads within the city to overcome traffic congestions experienced currently, Apai said there were plans but at present the focus was on established roads.
