Relations with Indonesia strong, says ambassador

INDONESIAN Ambassador Ronald Manik says bilateral relationships between Indonesia and Papua New Guinea are “very strong”
He said this during celebration of Indonesia’s 73rd independence anniversary at the Indonesian Embassy in Port Moresby on Friday.
The event included a flag-raising ceremony.
About 2000 Indonesians live in Papua New Guinea.
“We have an excellent relationship with PNG,” Manik said. “We have a good cooperation in managing our border areas.
“We also need to increase our trade and economic relationship.
“Yes, trade is good but if we focus more we can improve the trade.”
Manik said that they have also assisted with scholarships for PNG students to study at universities in Indonesia..
“We also provide capacity-building for people engaged in various professional fields,” he said.
