Relatives kill man for molesting two girls

A MAN has been killed in Bereina, Central, after molesting two young girls, provincial police commander Johannes Yapi says.
Yapi said the two victims were sisters, aged four and five, were travelling with their father to bring their sick mother to a clinic at Bereina when the incident occurred.
He said on their way, the family met the deceased, who was alledgedly drunk and looking to get to Bereina; he was allowed to travel with the family because he was familiar with them.
The parents left their daughters in the car and went into the clinic.
Yapi said the incident occurred at around 5pm when the deceased started molesting them and was discovered by their father, who chased the deceased away.
The family’s relatives then attacked the deceased once he returned to the village.
Yapi said deceased, who was in his 30s, suffered fatal bush knife wounds, he was rushed to the clinic but was pronounced dead on arrival.
He said a suspect had been brought to police for questioning.
Meanwhile, Yapi said a drunk youth from Goilala was also killed on Aug 6 at the Ku River.
Yapi said the deceased, while under the influence of alcohol, behaved disorderly and destroyed market tables at the Agevairu market.
He said the community then attacked him and tied him up and handed him over to police and was transferred to the 15-Mile Police Station
He was taken to the hospital where he died.
Yapi said the relatives of the deceased then retaliated and burnt several houses at Ku River belonging to the people suspected of beating up the deceased.
CID officers are investigating the case which the suspects are known.
