Relatives of suspect attack policeman

 AN auxiliary policeman in the remote Gumine district of Chimbu is nursing deep bush-knife wounds sustained while arresting a suspected armed robber last Friday.

Chimbu police commander Chief Insp Albert Belli confirmed that auxiliary policeman Kaupa Yopa, from Mul village in Gumine, was arresting a Daewon Trading robbery suspect when relatives of the suspect attacked him.

Relatives of the suspect moblised and attacked him with bush knives, sticks and stone at Yani village.

The policeman is being nursed at the Gumine Health Centre.

Belli said the suspect was handled by other members of Gumine rural police under the command of Rural Police Station Commander Alois Dame and taken to the Kundiawa police station.

He is locked up.
