LAE Lord Mayor James Khay has called on the relatives of the 16 escapees from Buimo Prison to persuade them (escapees) to surrender to law enforcement authorities.
“You can run all your life but you cannot hide (forever),” he said.
“You will be restless day and night (as something not in your favour) can happen the next minute. It is advisable to surrender.”
He called on community leaders, church leaders and police to persuade relatives to hand over the escapees.
He advised the 16 “to do the right thing, stop running from the law, abide by the law and be a good citizen”.
A group of 17 escaped from Buimo on Sunday, Jan 19. One was shot dead. A prison officer also died.
Prison officers, soldiers and police are looking for them.
