A PERSONAL contribution of K20,000 worth of relief food supplies and water were delivered to the flood-ravaged  areas along the Apanaipi river, North Mekeo in Kairuku by Central Governor Kila Haoda who visited the area last Saturday.
Haoda with his deputy governor and a team of delegates from the provincial and national disaster office travelled to the worst affected areas in the northern bush of Mekeo to assess the devastation.
“I could not sit back and see my people suffer. I have to be there to see for myself what they are doing there and provide relief assistance,” Haoda
said.
After an assessment report by the Central disaster team was finalised and presented last week, Haoda approved a relief budget of K350,000, with the first batch of major relief supplies of food and water to be delivered this week.
Haoda said a meeting was also held with the National Disaster Office and Department of Provincial and Local Level Government Affairs last week and they also pledged their support.
