TWO schools operating in a remote part of Southern Highlands are calling for support in transport which can assist them with their operations.
The schools are Gobe Agro Technical High School and the Wemi Primary School located in Gobe in Erave district. Gobe principal Warea Yawake and Wemi primary head teacher Toringi Michael said they needed trucks because transport costs to get supplies and materials from Mt Hagen (Western Highlands) was K5,000.
Yawake said recent tribal fighting in Sugu Valley in Kagua had affected their travel forcing them to travel to Mendi instead.
Yawake said his school also lacked infrastructural development since it was opened in 2002.
“The government needs to help us. We are trying to help the people and it is very important where we need to make sure remote schools are equipped with resources so they can help both the teachers and students,” he said.
Yawake said both schools had asked local business houses for support but they had not got a positive response.
Michael said that if a truck was acquired it would also assist the neighbouring Gobe health centre.
