Remote village set to showcase culture

THE remote Karamui sub-district of Karamui-Nomane in Chimbu is preparing to stage the first Karimui Conservation Agriculture and Cultural Show next month.
Non-governmental organisation Partners with Melanesians is working with Karamui District Development Authority (KDDA) and Chimbu government the event on Nov 21-23 the Karamui station.
Executive-director of Partners with Melanesians Kenn Mondiai said the event was for the wider community from the 27 wards of Karamui to showcase themselves.
There will be demonstrations of peanut butter-making from local peanuts and processing of cocoa and coffee.
Mondia said the show would become an annual event to be listed in the Tourism Promotion Authority (TPA) and Chimbu annual calendars.
“The aim of the show is to educate and promote eco-tourism related activities in Karamui district to the outside world,” he said.
“This is related to conservation of environment and to educate people on alternative resource use.”
Mondiai said senior government ministers and MPs including Minister for National Planning and Monitoring Richard Maru were expected to attend the show.
