Remoteness costly for vaccination exercise

MOROBE has some remote villages which are hard to access for polio vaccination exercise, an official says.
Morobe programme health adviser Jack Aita said the exercise was expensive.
“We currently have a K50,000 outstanding bill to be paid to a helicopter company. The good thing is that they are still supporting us to carry out the vaccination exercise,” he said.
“The pilots are flying to all the remote parts of the province which have no roads.”
He said the second round of vaccinations was challenging. It ends on Sunday.
“Some districts have done well and are currently doing mop-ups. Others are yet to update us on their progress,” Aita said.
“The important thing is that the target coverage is reached, and all children are immunised. Huon Gulf, Lae and Nawaeb are the only three districts that have done well with their coverage so far.”
Aita said the Youth with a Mission ship, mv YWAM-PNG, supported them when it was in Finschhafen for two weeks.
