Remove, replace Bailey Bridge

Letters

A HEAD-ON collision between two 25-seater buses occurred at Gouloka Creek in Goroka, Eastern Highlands, near the University of Goroka this week.
It was a nasty road accident as a result of gross ignorance by the driver of the buses.
The buses may have been faulty prior to being driven.
Two female students who were on their way to class and passengers from the other bus were involved in the accident and they sustained serious injuries.
The temporary Bailey Bridge is at fault. There is no space for people to walk on the bridge.
It seems the bridge was meant for another location, which is why it is not suitable for this section of the highway.
The Department of Works must remove the Bailey Bridge.
This bridge has been the cause of many previous road accidents.
It is positioned at an angle that is not in line with the highway.
The authorities are aware that many accidents have occurred on this bridge.
Howver, they haven’t done anything to address it.
Can Goroka MP Aiye Tambua and Eastern Highlands Governor Peter Numu do something to remove this road hazard.
The authorities should consider building a proper permanent bridge.
The public and trucks can always use other available passages.
I hope the Works Department is aware that people’s lives are at risk.
The lives of people travelling up to the upper Highlands and down to Morobe and Madang are at risk if this bridge is not replaced.
The highway is used by taxpayers regularly.
Why are Government authorities turning a blind eye on this important matter?
More lives will be lost if this bridge is not removed.
Do something to avoid losing more lives.

Pedestrian,
Goroka
