A PRELIMINARY investigation has been carried out into a light aircraft that crashed landed at Golgobip airstrip in Tabubil, Western, on July 19.

A team from the accident and emergency division is expected to compile a report after the pilot, aircraft operator and the crew have been interviewed.

Chief Commissioner Accident Investigation Commission (AIC) Nemo Yalo said a report would be filed within the next three weeks.

“The fact that who is going to remove this nine-seater aircraft is still not known yet but it is now a state property and therefore there is not much for me to say,” Yalo said.

The single-engine aircraft operated by Nuigini Aviation was still at the crashed site awaiting further investigation to establish the cause of the incident.

Yalo said the investigation team had flown into Tabubil but due to bad weather had yet to visit the crash site.

“To establish the full cause of the incident will take a long process, because here in the country we do not have the facilities so the relevant parts of the plane have to be sent overseas for examination,” he said.

He added that it was a long process to establish the cause the accident.

The charted aircraft was on a flight from Kiunga to Golgobip with six passengers – two children and four adults – on board, when the accident occurred.
