Report on East New Britain floods not ready
The National, Monday 23rd April 2012
EAST New Britain province is yet to compile a report on the recent floods that destroyed homes, food gardens and infrastructure.
Provincial disaster coordinator Allan Pinia said they had begun compiling the report from affected areas in the Gazelle and Warangoi areas.
He said the provincial disaster committee would soon meet and put together a submission for funding.
The report would be submitted to the National Disaster Centre to take up with the government through the National Executive Council.
Last week, acting Inter-Government Relations Minister John Boito said the people of East New Britain would be given disaster help when a report was received.
He said if the report warranted help, the department would assist.
Gazelle MP Malakai Tabar said roads had been destroyed while a new bridge, which was recently commissioned, had been washed away affecting movement between Kerevat, Vudal and the Sikut-Matupit areas.
