Representatives for the winner of the Prime Minister’s 2015 Excellence Award, Domil Integrated Community Health and Development Cooperative Society, attended the United Nations Development Programme workshop in Port Moresby last week.

Domil is located in Jiwaka.

The aim of the workshop was to highlight  Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and the experience of pilot project communities.

“Previously, we just looked after pigs and chickens for our daily consumption, now we are rearing them to generate our income,” Domil Integrated Community Health and Development Cooperative Society’s project manager operations Jackson Billgun said. The group displayed the Prime Minister’s 2015 Excellence Award among their other products.

“The awarded was given to the group under the 2015 sub-national level organisation award for tackling poverty and improving education, health and wellbeing, leading to strong and sustainable communities,” Billgun said. He said that the group created a brand name ‘Hauslain Organic Product’, which had two products on the retail market, the cassava flour and cassava stock feed.

Billgun said that the programme created job opportunities and improved the living standards of the people of Domil.
