THE National Youth Commission has welcomed the  Government’s initiative to request Israel’s assistance for the National Youth Service programmes.

Youth Commissioner Norit Luio said: “The Prime Minister’s use of every available opportunity to assist youths deserves our praise especially the assistance he secured from the Israeli government on National Youth Service.”

Prime Minister Peter O’Neill recently led a government delegation to Israel to explore ways it can assist PNG in areas of agriculture and defence.

The Israel Youth Service programme will also assist youths in PNG.

“Youths make up more than half the national population and more than half of youth population live in rural areas who want to participate in rural development,” he said.

“With the proper support through Nation Youth Service, youths will certainly see this as an opportunity to use their skills, strength and knowledge in towns and villages.

“Using our youths through the National Youth Service is the best option.

“In order for a good policy to be realised, it is best to make good use of the available resources.

“Our youths are ready and waiting for the support.”
