Residential areas not for towers

I AM concerned that a new telecommunication company is trying to erect a communication tower at my backyard.
With the global fear of radio radiation, we do not want this communication company to erect its towers near our home.
There was no proper awareness conducted by this new telecommunication company therefore I do not understand how the owner of the house next door has agreed to have the tower erected 4-5 meters next to his house.
All the other neighbours are concerned about this.
I asked the contractor about the owner of the tower and he named a new telecommunication company which is foreign-owned.
I urge the relevant authorities such as Nicta, NCDC and the Health Department to investigate and check if this practice is in line with our telecommunication regulations and standards.
There are better isolated and idle spots on the mountain to erect this tower, why erecting it within residential areas and next to a house?
Are the new telecommunication company supposed to erect towers where people live without proper planning and consultation?
I am very concerned about this.
