Residents blame flooding on contractor
The National, Wednesday February 25th, 2015
A 30-year resident of Mosquito Street, Morata 4, is claiming that contractor China Harbour Engineering Ltd (CHEL) has blocked a major waterway, which has flooded the area.
Michael Taipus, 42, and from Enga, said the only water outlet was blocked during road construction in the National Capital District and heavy rain caused it to flood.
He said food gardens, banana and coconut trees and other valuable items in their houses were either damaged or destroyed.
Christian Apostolic Church pastor Emmanuel Lukaim confirmed the problem.
“There is a lot of damage due to flooding caused by this road construction work and we are trying to petition the company and NCD to address this damage,” Lukaim said.
“The residents are requesting for proper inspection to be done and a bridge to be built to prevent future flooding.”
CHEC public relations officer Pexcy Rodney confirmed the incident and said they were conducting their own investigations. “As a responsible developer, we have visited the site and seen evidence of flooding and we will address it.”
