RESIDENTS in the Moresby Northwest electorate are enjoying sealed roads and concrete footpaths.
There is a major upgrading and sealing of roads in Hohola, Tokorara, Waigani, Morata and Gerehu, with a number of contractors engaged.
The projects were funded under Moresby Northwest district services improvement programme in close consultation with the National Capital District Commission.
People who previously used the muddy and dusty sidewalks to travel to and from work will now enjoy newly built concrete footpaths at Hohola, Tokarara and Waigani area.
All suburb road projects were started last year, with some successfully completed and a number still under way.
Among the contractors, self-employed female contractor Masali Sokoli has been engaged to supervise unemployed youths to erect concrete footpaths from Waigani traffic lights to the National Housing Corporation turn-off.
Sokoli said her project would be complete within three weeks and would ensure commuters enjoyed the newly-built concrete footpaths.
“I am really enjoying working alongside local boys to construct the footpaths, they worked as if they are specialists but our job is closely monitored and inspected by the NCDC engineers,” she said.
“Although it is a costly exercise, it is pleasant to engage youths to draw them away from illicit activities,” she said.
