Residents keep city clean
The National, Thursday July 9th, 2015
PORT MORESBY residents have been commended for keeping the city clean by doing away with littering and chewing of betel nuts in public.
National Capital City District manager (law and order) Temu Elly welcomed the sudden change in attitude by the people to keep the city clean. “I have being travelling around the city, coordinating the NCD security personnel at the Pacific Games park-and-ride designation and am quite impressed with the effort and cooperation of the public so far,” Elly said.
“I have to commend the effort so far in trying to keep the city clean for the Pacific Games especially in and around the public places and main Games venues.
“There is no buai spittle and plastics lying around, which shows that a lot of people are now embracing Governor (Powes) Parkop’s buai ban initiative by being very conscious when in public.”
Elly said despite betel nut being smuggled into and sold in the city, people were scared to litter in public because of the major cleanup campaign by city authorities.
Elly is urging everyone to accept the changes and support Parkop’s clean-city campaign.
“It’s good to see the informal vendors starting to avoid public sale as customers might litter and attract the attention of city rangers and the police,” Elly said.
